THE PERFECT PLACE TO GROW
In April we took some of our Quench Young Artists group to The Perfect Place To Grow for a pasta making session followed by a family style meal.
First up Simona from Bottega Caruso the cohort made fresh tagliatelle followed by Jack teaching two sauces from scratch. We compared shop bought and homemade and our homemade pasta was the unanimous winner.
Thank you so much to TPPTG team for creating such a fun and engaging workshop. It's really challenging for most of our cohort to be in new spaces and to meet new people so it is a testament to you guys that they joined in with lots of activity and tried (and loved) the food they made too!
It was really helpful that small adjustments were made to meet the groups needs (gloves, space to step away, different types of examples given etc) and room was made for high energy and excitable moments, while still keeping the workshop safe and informative.
Some of our young people already knew Jack as he was our official chef at the beginning of QYA and that made it feel like a mini reunion.
We have a loyalty scheme at QYA where young people earn a small amount each week to attend the club and the money must be spent on creative equipment for personal practice at home, one of the group, K is spending her whole amount on a pasta maker, so huge thank you Simona for inspirational pasta class and both David and Jack for encouraging and open conversations about work in a kitchen and love of food, it was brilliant.
“This project is a partnership with Margate Creative Land Trust to support young people to gain insight into different creative roles, local creative spaces and entry points to the creative and cultural industry.”
