… And How Do You Choose Your Form? Alexander Glass

April 17th 2021 - May 2nd 2021

I know we must abide
Each by the rules that bind us here:
The divers and the sailors and the women on the pier

And how do you choose your form?
How do you choose your name? How do you choose your life?
How do you choose the time you must exhale and kick and rise?

Joanna Newsome – Divers

Between the anticipation and the plunge, the thought and the conclusion, is the shape you take to perform your dive. …and how do you choose your form? is an expression of desire and the potential of what we could be through the suspension of pleasure. The swimming pool and the diver serve as a condition to present the moments before and after an act but never the form that is taken to perform it. Conceived within a year of self-reflection, the exhibition seeks to blend the collective urge for motion with the cautionary tales of metamorphosis from classical mythology. Preparation, action & satisfaction.
