In the harsh light of heightened public discussion on the rights of trans people in public spaces, and the pressure to defend these rights vocally, this Saturday, we are running a “togethering” session for trans and gender non conforming people with JJ Chan and Friends, to hold space for non-verbal forms of communication and solidary in a private and safer environment.
Open to any Trans and gender non conforming people, the session will be run as a private and intimate life drawing class within our gallery space. You are invited to draw, to model, to find joy in your form and your expression. You can model unclothed or clothed, or anywhere in-between, as you feel most comfortable. As you feel most you. You can also attend just to draw.
Being visible is difficult in complex ways. Being the subject of a portrait can be a hugely affirming experience, particularly as we grapple with how we are seen and not seen. Becoming the subject of looking in a space that desires and treasures you, is to trust in your peers to show you what you are to them in the world, without needing to exchange a single word. This is about having a conversation without words.
The class is free, and we will provide materials.
The meeting will take part in Quench downstairs gallery accessible by one flight of stairs. If you have questions about access or need adjustments to attend please email Gemma at quenchgallery@gmail.com
